Rigid Pipelay (Reel-lay and S-lay)

EMAS CHIYODA Subsea has two reel-lay vessels, the Lewek Express and the Lewek Constellation, which together are able to install rigid pipelines (including pipe-in-pipe) from 50m to ultra-deep waters in excess of 3000m. In addition, ECS has two onshore spoolbases, located close to major subsea markets, to support our pipelay operations – Halsvik, Norway and Ingleside, USA – with facilities to fabricate and spool pipe stalks (including pipe-in-pipe) onto either the Lewek Constellation or Lewek Express reel-lay vessels. The facility in Ingleside also has the capability to fabricate subsea steel and concrete structures.

Through EMAS CHIYODA Subsea’s state-of-art vessel, Lewek Constellation, ECS is able to perform continuous reel-lay operation in remote locations, including the Artic, through the use of a dedicated spool barge which transports up to 4 reels of pipe to the vessel locations and a 3000T crane on the reel-lay vessel which helps to load and off-load pipe reels. This eliminates the need for the reel-lay vessel to return to the spool barge to re-load the reel, hence reducing installation period and cost by removing delay due to vessel transit time as well as waiting time for the pipe to be spooled onto the vessel.

EMAS CHIYODA Subsea has a fleet of S-lay pipelay vessels which have successfully installed various sizes of trunklines and in-field pipelines, from shore approach to ultra-deep water. ECS has recently completed a 5-year pipelaying campaign offshore Thailand where numerous pipelines have been successfully installed. The Lewek Centurion has also been utilized to install pipelines in China in water depth of 1,300m.

Rigid Pipeline J-lay Installation

EMAS CHIYODA Subsea’s advance Multi-lay vessel, Lewek Constellation, can be geared to lay rigid pipelines in J-lay mode. With an achievable lay tension of 800mT (400mT x 2), this vessel can lay long truncklines to ultra-deep waters.
